Dr. Carole 袜, Chair of the 业务 Program (Columbia College), and Dr. 谢丽尔克莱恩, Deputy Dean of Alfred Lerner College of 业务 and Economics and the Aramark Chaired Professor in the Department of Hospitality and Sport 业务 Management (University of Delaware), contributed a chapter to the newly released book, “Mentoring in STEM Through a Female Identity Lens: Heroes Make a Difference for Women.” While the focus of research for Dr. 袜和Dr. Kline has been mentoring and sponsoring relationships for women, specifically in the hospitality industry, they expanded their focus to contribute to this text.
Their chapter, Leveraging Mentoring and Sponsoring Relationships to Get Promoted in Academia, explores both mentoring and sponsoring relationships and how these relationships contribute to career promotion. The chapter also highlights a call to action for proactive and equitable strategies pertaining to these relationships to be employed in higher learning institutions.
To add to the excitement, Columbia College’s own Dr. Adrienne Oxley, Dean of the Division of 健康, 数学, 与科学, Director of the Mastery Lab, and Professor of Chemistry, is highlighted in the chapter (page 211) as her career journey through a mentorship and sponsorship perspective is shared as a success story within the STEM field. "We were thrilled that Dr. Oxley agreed to be interviewed and included in our chapter," stated Dr. 袜. "As her professional growth and career success continues, we shared her story as an inspiration to other women pursuing STEM careers."
